Two things that are truly loved: Red Velvet and Chocolate. llene Miriam presents the “Love Marble” cupcake. I don’t know why, but I have to say “Love Marble” with my best Barry White voice. I should play Barry White the next time I make these, lol. For more pics, click here.

York peppermint patties are so cool and refreshing. It makes perfect sense to put them in a cupcake! For more pics, click here.

Bloggers, here I come!!!

Welcome to my new blog! I’m an aspiring baker in a little place called Brooklyn, NY. Okay, I know its not that small but it sounds good, lol! Please join me on my journey of baking. I have millions of ideas running wild in my head. So be prepared to see some “next level” baking…and a lot of stuff you’ve seen before. Let’s face it, no idea is original but I will try my best to put my own spin on things.

I’m not your average baker, most people don’t even know that I can boil water. The joke in my family is that all I know how to cook is tuna fish and cereal…get it? You don’t have to cook that stuff! Ha Ha (can you feel the sarcasm through your monitor?) Anyway, I’ve made several cupcakes since then and have earned the praise of my family. That says a lot, believe me! Family: the toughest critics but its all love.

I’m really excited to enter this underground baking cult aka cake blogging. There are so many cool blogs, I don’t know where to start. I’ve done a lot of research but so far Bakerella is my favorite. I even went out to Party City to purchase some candy making tools (I’m so ready to do this). Unfortunately, my camera is out of commission for now :(

In the meantime, I will explain why my blog is called Ilene Miriam. It’s actually named after my grandmother. To me, she was the best baker on earth HANDS DOWN. All of her cakes were from scratch. I found that pretty weird as a kid. Why wouldn’t she just pick up a Duncan Hines box and call it a day? I soon learned there was a huge difference. From that point on, I looked forward to her 2 signature cakes each holiday: Coconut and Chocolate Frosted Butter cake. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! it was truly an event. Her homemade cheesecake was no joke (and that says a lot coming from a girl who doesn’t care for cheesecake). Though we lost her in 2001, she will never be forgotten. Here, her legacy will live on through me and my attempt to be just like her…and pick up many more recipes along the way.

From time to time, I might post other things that interest me, like fashion, movies and music. I love to shop, LOVE IT! Fashion is Life! It’s all about feeling good and looking good. So, i’ll definitely put you on to the hottest trends in fashion. Music is also a huge part of my life. R&B is my favorite. My ipod is filled with it…and you know what? That’s the way I like it! Don’t get me wrong, there’s tons of other stuff like rap, reggae, etc…but R&B is #1. Last but not least, I love a good movie. Comedies are my favorite but I’ll watch anything with an interesting plot. You will see how fashion, movies and music influence my baking. It’s just a natural chemistry.

Thanks for stopping by. I promise you that my next baking post will be INSANE (keep your fingers crossed)!!!!

“What is this, Velvet?!”

It's Beautiful

"It's Beautiful!"

I know I’m not the only person who’s seen Coming To America. So I’m sure you’ll get the subject line. If not, look it up!

Here’s a few pics of my first ever red velvet cupcakes. I made these back in March. I never really had the desire to eat red velvet cake. I think it’s the cream cheese frosting that turned me off.

I.M. Dangerously Good!

It’s hard to believe that this little cupcake started it all!

Anyway, it was my aunt’s birthday and she suggested that I’d try to make some. Luckily, they came out pretty d@mn good!
